Aerospace Welding Technician

Jackson, MI
Full Time
Mid Level
Technique is looking for an Aerospace Welding Technician to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to General Manager. This role involves fabricating, welding, and assembling precision components used in aerospace and defense applications, where quality standards and documentation requirements are much stricter than in general manufacturing. The technician must produce exceptionally high-quality welds with very low tolerance for defects, as the finished components may be used in mission-critical aerospace or defense applications.

The ideal candidate brings 3–5+ years of TIG and/or MIG welding experience in a precision manufacturing environment, with the ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T. Experience with stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys such as titanium or Inconel, familiarity with welding specifications (WPS/PQR) and quality documentation, and AWS certification – particularly AWS D17.1 (Aerospace Fusion Welding) – are strong assets in this role.

Responsibilities:
  • Perform precision welding – Perform MIG, TIG, and occasionally resistance or laser welding on steel, stainless steel, aluminum, titanium, or specialty alloys.
  • Interpret engineering drawings – Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and welding symbols.
  • Set up welding equipment – Set up and operate welding equipment according to approved welding procedures.
  • Fabricate and assemble – Fabricate and assemble complex components to tight tolerances.
  • Inspect welds – Inspect welds visually and with measuring equipment to ensure quality.
  • Complete documentation – Complete required documentation for traceability and quality records.
  • Maintain compliance – Maintain compliance with aerospace and defense quality standards and safety procedures.
  • Collaborate across teams – Work closely with engineering, quality, and manufacturing teams to resolve production issues.

Requirements:
  • 3–5+ years of TIG and/or MIG welding experience in a precision manufacturing environment
  • Ability to read blueprints and understand GD&T
  • Experience with stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic alloys (titanium or Inconel is a plus)
  • Familiarity with welding specifications (WPS/PQR) and quality documentation
  • Experience using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds
  • American Welding Society (AWS) Certified Welder preferred
  • AWS D17.1 (Aerospace Fusion Welding) experience or certification preferred
  • Military welding specification experience preferred
