Technique is looking for a Quality Technician 1 to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position reports to the Quality Manager in the Quality department. The Quality Technician 1 will inspect and measure components and finished products to determine compliance with engineering requirements, create and maintain records, data, and metrics for quality assurance, and assist with dispositioning nonconforming product. This role also develops procedures and processes for quality system compliance, leads quality and continuous improvement projects, and works with customers and vendors on quality-related issues in coordination with account managers and the purchasing department.
The ideal candidate brings an associate’s degree in engineering technology or a related technical field, with three to five years of hands-on quality control experience in manufacturing or engineering. Beginning knowledge of GD&T, experience in an ISO 9000 environment, and proficiency with inspection equipment such as PolyWorks laser inspection, CMM software, micrometers, calipers, and optical comparators are highly valued. Strong root-cause analysis skills, excellent communication abilities, and a detail-oriented, multi-tasking mindset are critical factors in this role.

Responsibilities:
- Inspect and measure parts – Inspect and measure components and finished products to determine compliance with engineering requirements using precision measurement equipment.
- Create and maintain quality records – Create and maintain records, data, and metrics containing all pertinent information necessary for quality assurance.
- Disposition nonconforming product – Assist with dispositioning nonconforming product and issuing Quality Alerts as needed.
- Develop procedures and coordinate quality compliance – Develop procedures, processes, and coordinate efforts for quality system compliance.
- Lead continuous improvement projects – Participate in and lead quality and continuous improvement projects with a goal of continuous process, system, and product improvement.
- Work with customers and vendors – In coordination with account managers and the purchasing department, work with customers and vendors on quality-related issues and to develop and improve product.
- Program and operate CMM software – Complete basic or beginner-level programming of PolyWorks and additional CMM software; use optical comparator, protractor, radius gages, and feeler gages.
- Use handheld measurement devices – Teach and use handheld measurement devices such as micrometers, calipers, height stands, and related tools.
- Prepare process inspection plans – With assistance, prepare process inspection plans (control plan check sheets) addressing customer-identified special or key characteristics and determine appropriate inspection methods and frequency.
- Navigate E2 and maintain job documentation – Log time in E2, log in and out of jobs, navigate E2 to find information related to current, future, or past jobs, and understand in-process data sheets, job folders, job travelers, and receiver numbers.
- Maintain safe and organized work area – Follow all safety procedures and rules including PPE requirements, keep work area clean and organized (5S), understand product flow and proper staging areas, and complete all required safety training including lockout/tagout, First Aid/CPR/AED, and hazardous communication.
- Multi-task across concurrent projects – Manage multiple projects and jobs simultaneously, demonstrating a sense of urgency, positive attitude, and ability to adapt to schedule changes and shifting priorities.
Requirements:
- Associate’s degree preferred in engineering technology or other technical field; equivalent combination of education and experience considered
- Three to five years of hands-on experience in quality control related to manufacturing or engineering
- Beginning knowledge and working experience utilizing GD&T
- Experience in an ISO 9000 environment
- Experience with laser inspection (PolyWorks), surface plate & height gages, profilometers, optical comparators, thread gages, pin gages, micrometers, calipers, bore gages, and angle gages
- Experience with SPC (Minitab) and calibration (GAGEpack) preferred
- Root-cause analysis skills and understanding of problem-solving tools (5-why, fishbone)
- Proven ability to read blueprints and understand component and assembly prints/part drawings
- Strong communication skills (verbal and written) and strong computer knowledge (Microsoft Office)
- Deadline and detail-oriented with strong time management skills; ability to multi-task on various projects simultaneously
- Ability to lift and/or move up to 20 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
- Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and elevated noise levels
- No travel expected for this position
- Must be eligible to work in the United States by means of U.S. Citizenship, Work Visa, or H1B sponsorship
