Powder Coating Technician

Technique, Inc. is looking for a Powder Coat General Operator to join our team at our Jackson, Michigan facility. This position supports the Powder Coat department and reports to the Powder Coat Manufacturing Supervisor. The General Operator plays a key role in preparing, processing, and packaging products through the early stages of the powder coat process, working alongside a skilled team in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

The ideal candidate is a dependable general laborer who takes pride in quality workmanship and can handle the physical demands of a full shift. Experience with basic blueprint reading, forklift operation, hand grinders, and the ability to lift 50+ pounds are key factors for success in this role. 

Responsibilities:
  • Prepare product for powder coat – Clean product and remove unwanted debris or rust in the first stages of the powder coat process.
  • Operate lift truck – Operate lift truck or obtain and maintain a lift truck license as required for material handling in the department.
  • Run hand grinder and sander – Operate hand grinder, sander, or metal finishing equipment as needed to prepare product surfaces.
  • Measure parts – Measure parts using a basic tape measure to verify dimensional accuracy prior to processing.
  • Read and use Job Traveler – Use and read Technique’s Job Traveler to correctly process product in accordance with job requirements.
  • Package and unpackage parts – Properly package and unpackage parts to prevent damage and meet customer and quality requirements.
  • Run automation stations – Operate automation stations within the powder coat process as needed to maintain production flow.
  • Apply basic blueprint reading – Read and interpret basic blueprints to support correct part identification and processing.
  • Problem solve and support team – Apply basic problem-solving skills to support daily operations and assist teammates as needed.

Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED preferred
  • General labor or manufacturing experience preferred
  • Ability to operate or obtain a lift truck license
  • Ability to run hand grinder and sander or perform metal finishing
  • Basic blueprint reading skills
  • Basic problem-solving skills
  • Ability to frequently lift and/or move items over 50 pounds
  • This position is very active and requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, and climbing throughout the shift
  • Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus
  • Comfortable working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to fumes or airborne particles, hazardous chemicals, moving mechanical parts, industrial equipment, vibration, and loud noise
  • No travel required for this position
  • Must be eligible to work in the United States

Position Type and Expected Hours:

This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a minimum of 40 hours per week with overtime as needed. Note: days and hours required may vary. Shift premiums are available.

Shifts include:
  • 1st Shift – Monday through Friday, 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM
  • 2nd Shift – Monday through Thursday, 3:30 PM to 2:00 AM
  • Weekend Days – Friday through Sunday, 5:00 AM to 5:30 PM
